Knoll Ridge Chalet

TOP OF THE SKY WAKA GONDOLA

Home to New Zealand’s highest restaurant experience, Knoll Ridge Chalet pairs modern alpine design with panoramic views across the Central Plateau and straight out to The Pinnacles. Sitting high above the clouds at 2,020m, it’s one of the most iconic and unmissable experiences at Whakapapa.

Inside, you'll find a self-serve restaurant with a rotating selection of hearty hot meals, plus dumplings, bao buns, a fresh salad bar and barista-made coffee. The hot cabinet is topped up throughout the day with mountain favourites such as pies, while the bakery offers croissants, and other sweet treats. Finish with an Aperol Spritz on tap or choose from a selection of wine, beer and cocktails at the Back Bar, all with the best panoramic view on the maunga.

Lorenz’s Bar & Café

Lorenz’s Bar & Café

BASE AREA

The mountain’s classic ski lodge-style hangout, Lorenz’s Bar & Café is the home of breakfast, barista-made coffee and the best (and only) burgers you'll find on the mountain.

Swing back from 2:30pm daily for our Corona Happy Hour with specials on Corona, Michelob Ultra and Mateus Rosé, bringing those classic après vibes to the base area.

Filled with historic photos and memorabilia, the café celebrates Whakapapa's rich skiing heritage and alpine history, with its name honouring Lorenz Rieser, Ruapehu Alpine Lifts' Chief Engineer for nearly 35 years.

Happy Valley Bistro

Happy Valley Bistro

DOWN IN HAPPY VALLEY

Located down in Whakapapa’s beginner ski and snowplay area, Happy Valley Bistro is the go-to spot for lesson breaks, fueling up between Double Happy laps or a post-Snowland meal.

Grab a slice of pizza, tuck into hot favourites from the cabinet or pick up a fresh pastry or sweet treat from the bakery. With hot chips, pies, sausage rolls, chicken nuggets and more topped up throughout the day, it's the perfect place for a quick bite before heading back out into the snow.

Happy Valley Bistro is a cash-free venue, so just tap and go with a debit or credit card.
