Winter 2026
Food & Drink

Great mountain days deserve even better food.

From dining high above the slopes to quick coffees and family favourites, Whakapapa offers places to eat that feel part of the experience. Refuel, warm up or settle in for the views with cafés, bars and restaurants across the maunga.

Knoll Ridge Chalet

TOP OF THE SKY WAKA GONDOLA

Home to New Zealand’s highest restaurant experience, Knoll Ridge Chalet pairs modern alpine design with panoramic views across the Central Plateau and straight out to The Pinnacles. Sitting high above the clouds at 2,020m, it’s one of the most iconic and unmissable experiences at Whakapapa.

Settle in for a long lunch, barista coffee or a cocktail overlooking the Valley slopes through floor-to-ceiling windows. Up there you’ll also find the Back Bar pouring wine, beer and cocktails with one of the best outlooks on the mountain, while Four Peaks Alley tucked beneath the chalet serves up relaxed food truck-style bites.

BASE AREA

The first spot you’ll see when you arrive at Whakapapa, Lorenz’s Bar & Café is the mountain’s classic ski lodge-style hangout and an easy place to pause before or after a day on the snow.

Stop in for barista coffee, quick bites and a spot by the fire, or head out onto the deck overlooking the base area plaza to soak up the atmosphere as the mountain gets moving.

DOWN IN HAPPY VALLEY

Located down in Whakapapa’s beginner ski and snowplay area, Happy Valley Bistro is the go-to spot for lesson breaks, family snow days and warming up between runs.

With Snowland and beginner lessons right outside, it’s built for quick, easy and family-friendly dining with warm drinks and easy meals. There’s also an outdoor deck where parents can watch the kids, lessons and Snowland action without missing a thing.
