To ensure the continued safety and reliability of the Sky Waka Gondola, scheduled maintenance will take place from the 1-29 May 2026.

The Sky Waka Gondola will be temporarily closed to the public during this maintenance period and reopen on Saturday 30 May 2026, just in time to kick off the 2026 winter season.

Regular maintenance is an essential part of operating a world-class lift system and helps ensure the Sky Waka Gondola continues to provide a safe and reliable journey to Knoll Ridge Chalet at 2,020m up Mt Ruapehu.

While the gondola and Knoll Ridge Chalet are closed during this period, Lorenz’s Bar & Café and the retail shop will be open from 2 May 2026. Visitors are welcome to stop by for food and drinks, browse the retail range and enjoy the alpine environment at 1,630m above sea level.
