Ruapehu Sport Teams

The Ruapehu Sport teams train at Turoa and Whakapapa ski areas. Ruapehu has been involved in ski racing since 1929 when it held the first National Championships. Since then Mt Ruapehu has fostered a number of World Cup, Olympic and National champions. We currently have Ben Griffin and Angus Howden, former Ruapehu athletes doing very well on the New Zealand Ski Team.

The programme has also had success with our Freestyle and Snowboard athletes. A number of athletes have been on the podium at National and International events.
